This project is dedicated to the current events in Russia in light of the recent elections to the government and its outcomes. December of 2011 opened a new page in my country’s history.
The first mass protests were fueled by citizens’ discontent with the falsification of the Duma (State Parliament) election results.
Each piece is “hot off the press.” Political events that took place during the day found their reflection in paintings created at night on the same day.
“Elections” was made on the night of December 5th. The day when details of the elections process and its results began to emerge.
“Results,” the second painting, appeared the following night when the information about the falsification came to light.
“The Rally” was done during the night of December 7th. Two meetings had already taken place. Many participants were arrested.
“The Flags” appeared during the night of December 25th. A large-scale protest took place a day earlier on Sakharov Avenue in Moscow.
“Observers” was created in February. Many of my friends enlisted as observers at the forthcoming presidential elections on March 4th, 2012.
“The Active Ones” was painted during May-June of 2012. The picture is devoted to people who organize meetings to stand for education and culture in the country.
